In its profound teachings on marriage, the Second Vatican Council in1965 states precisely what difficulties husband and wife can face onrelating their mutual love and the parenthood which naturally arisesfrom expressions of that love. The Council reiterated the ancient andonce universal Christian teaching that the morality  of marriedintimacy depends on "preserving the full meaning of mutual giving andhuman procreation in a context of true Love". It said that somequestions about ways of regulating were being studied by a commission(set up when the "pill" became avalaible), so that Pope could give hisjudgment on how God's law applies to those ways.
